‘Rising star’ among women entrepreneurs even gets a salute from Oprah Winfrey

CHICAGO—Not many founders of a new business can realistically hope to be named “Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year – Rising Star” and then receive an in-person salute from Oprah Winfrey. But that’s what has happened to Lynn Sutton, founder and managing principal of Kairos Consulting Worldwide, headquartered in Chicago.

The prestigious award has been bestowed on Sutton by the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) and was presented during the 20th annual Entrepreneurial Woman’s Conference. That WBDC-sponsored conference is held each year for women who “have a proven passion for their business, provide inspiration and encouragement to other women business owners, who embody the entrepreneurial spirit, the courage, and drive to succeed, and the tenacity to be successful.”

Sutton and recipients of the conference’s other awards this year were honored in a keynote address by Winfrey, the TV and movie star, producer and philanthropist who is one of the most successful self-made entrepreneurs in world history. The awards ceremony was in the Grand Ballroom of Chicago’s Navy Pier.

Sutton’s Kairos Consulting Worldwide, founded two years ago, is a management consulting firm that specializes in performance improvement and technology integration. Kairos serves small clients as well as Fortune 1000 companies. However, it specializes in helping small businesses emerge as mid-size companies. (“Kairos” is an ancient Greek word meaning “the opportune moment.”)
